Natural ventilation systems provide insufficient protection against condensation and the subsequent corrosive effects of high humidity. In offshore wind turbines, the problem is exacerbated due to the necessary closed nature of the turbine subjected to year round aggressive offshore conditions resulting in condensation effects.<br /><br /> The culprit is high humidity especially at sea, effecting the tower and the nacelle machinery area eg on doors, walls etc. during periods of stand still or breakdown. During daily cooling of the outside air or weather changes, moist air surrounding cold surfaces reaches the dew point and condensation forms which can then drip onto plant parts. Corrosion and humidity induced moisture puddles on the equipment can result in electrical and electronic short circuits in the switching equipment. Munters desiccant dehumidification systems supply dry air to the tower and machinery areas resulting in dry trouble-free operation, and increased longevity of machinery, walls and tower structures. Maintenance work on machinery and costs for repair are greatly reduced, enabling operators to recoup the investment in the desiccant system very quickly.<br /><br /> Munters dry air systems can be applied at two levels;<br /> Firstly the tower is kept dry ensuring no moisture or condensation effects are experienced throughout the ascent.<br /> Secondly, in the turbine machinery nacelle, the whole machinery component area is dehumidified and protected against condensation and corrosion, from production phase to installed on site.<br /><br /><strong>Munters Desiccant Drying Systems</strong><br /> Munters dehumidifiers work by passing the moist air through a slowly rotating desiccant wheel (rotor) which has a very large surface area. The desiccant drying rotor is impregnated with solid adsorbent material which dries the air containing moisture, so that the resulting air passed back into the tower and the machinery area is dry.<br /><br /> A second air stream within the desiccant dehumidifier passes through a separate sector of the rotor and the absorbed water is driven of the rotor and discarded outside the turbine. The demand for energy worldwide continues to rise faster than generating capacity, and the deregulation of the electric power industry has created demand for products that will make power producers more efficient.</p> </div> </div> <div class="row"> <div class="medium-7 column"> <h2>Challenges Facing the Power Generation Industry</h2> <p>Modern gas turbine technology has made enormous progress toward the related goals of increasing plant capacity and improving efficiency, but even these modern plant designs may suffer heat losses unless proper cooling techniques are implemented.<br /><br /> The Hunts Bay Power Station is a 668-megawatt (MW) combined cycle cogeneration power plant located in Kingston, Jamaica. The plant is owned by Jamaica Public Service Company Ltd.<br /><br /> The Hunts Bay facility includes three combustion turbines; two GT Browns and one GE Frame 7. They needed to improve plant operations and increase output and efficiency in order to recover power and generate greater revenue. In addition, nitrous oxides and carbon monoxide emissions must be continuously monitored and controlled at the facility with minimal environmental impact.<br /><br /> The average annual growth in demand for electricity in Jamaica over the past 10 years was approximately five percent and the forecast for the next five years is six percent annum.<br /><br /> "Based on our current installed capacity of 668 Megawatts (MW), it is expected that by the years 2003 and 2004 the demand will have surpassed our generating capacity," said Dave Stamp, Facility Engineer for Hunts Bay Power Station.<br /><br /> It was with this in mind that Jamaica Public Service Company Ltd. investigated ways to economically increase the capacity of its generating units. One such method utilizes evaporative cooling technology to cool the inlet air to the gas turbine.</p> <h2>The Munters Solution</h2> <p>Because large amounts of air are required to operate gas turbines, the power output and fuel consumption of a gas turbine generator are highly dependent upon mass flow, quality and ambient temperature of the air drawn into the combustion chamber.<br /><br /> "The cleaner and cooler the air taken into the turbine is, the more efficient the turbine operates, resulting in a higher power output," said Stamp. "Conversely, as the air inlet temperature rises, power output falls and efficiency decreases."<br /><br /> In order to prove the suitability of the inlet air cooling technology to the Jamaican climatic conditions, a pilot project was conceived. Gas Turbine no. 4, a John Brown Engineering MS5001 (Frame 5) unit with an ISO rating of 25.5 MW [59°F and 14.7 pounds per square inch absolute (psia) inlet air] and a site rating of<br /> 21.750 MW [88°F and 14.7 psia], was selected.<br /><br /> "We became aware of inlet air cooling as an option after noticing a Munters advertisement on the subject," said Stamp. "We would later contact them for an economic analysis."<br /><br /> According to Stamp, there were several reasons Hunts Bay chose to use an evaporative cooling system at the plant versus other cooling methods.<br /><br /> "We chose evaporative cooling because of its ease of retrofit installation, low operating cost and low inlet pressure drop," said Stamp. " In addition, it was economically the right choice for us and the unit was also easy to install."<br /><br /> Climatic conditions in Jamaica were ideal for installing evaporative cooling.<br /><br /> "A gradual reduction in capacity is expected with increased ambient temperature, hence in Kingston, with high ambient temperatures of 90-92°F in the summer months, only approximately 85 percent of ISO MCR can be realized," said Stamp.<br /><br /> The pilot test was conducted for six months, from January through June 2000. The results of the test proved that Hunts Bay Power Station benefited from the installation of the Munters evaporative cooling system.<br /><br /> "We regained as much as 10% of our power capacity with the addition of the evaporative cooling unit," said Stamp.<br /><br /> "While power companies in southern climates realize the impact evaporative cooling can have on turbine performance, we are also seeing opportunities developing as far north as Toronto," said Larry Klekar, sales manager for Munters Systems Division. "Inlet cooling returns the<br /> investment so rapidly that installations are a good decision throughout most of North and South America. Cooling the combustion air for a gas turbine plant is a smart way of getting more power. <p>除霧方案需要根據(jù)實際安裝條件進行定制設計。定制設計能解決除塵設備、吸收塔和除霧裝置之間全面協(xié)作的潛在問題,從而達到超清潔排放標準的要求。因此,蒙特公司的應用工程師花了一個多月時間與華能長興電廠的相關工程師進行討論,確定制造前的安裝細節(jié)。</p> <p>環(huán)境保護是中國亟待解決的問題。近年來,空氣污染變得如此嚴重,以至于人們創(chuàng)造了一個專門的術語“中國霾”來描述空氣污染。排放的主要來源是燃煤發(fā)電廠向大氣釋放大氣污染物。</p> <p>?</p> <h2>蒙特高效除霧器解決方案</h2> <p>這一解決方案是基于蒙特公司德國研發(fā)部門取得的成果。除霧器采用三層屋頂架構(gòu)(DV210I和DV210III),降低了除霧器的布局高度,大大提高了除霧器在不同工作條件下的靈活性和穩(wěn)定性。</p> <p>蒙特公司的多級解決方案有效地消除了細霧,從而實現(xiàn)了20 mg/Nm3的超微排放(基于沖擊法VDI class="row"> <div class="medium-7 column"> <h2>中國空氣污染現(xiàn)狀</h2> <p>近年來,中國用電需求不斷上升。很多電廠是通過燃煤發(fā)電的,所以導致了空氣污染的問題。電廠的硫排放會導致酸雨,這在很多國家都是飽受爭議的環(huán)境問題。因此,中國政府制訂了嚴格規(guī)定來減少硫排放。</p> <h2>安裝一套先進的多級除霧系統(tǒng)</h2> <p>中國電力龍頭企業(yè)和電力工程領軍企業(yè)都在它們的煙氣凈化流程中使用蒙特除霧技術。為避免任何差池,他們通常會選用市面上更優(yōu)質(zhì)的產(chǎn)品、值得信賴的凈化系統(tǒng),來確保煙氣的排放低于國家標準。<br /><br /> 這一流程被稱為脫硫,它發(fā)生于吸收塔中;煙氣從電廠煙囪排放之前都會先經(jīng)過吸收塔。首先,受污染的空氣會被水和化學藥劑的混合物噴淋,使污染物形成滴液。通過慣性撞擊,蒙特除霧器能攔截含污染物的滴液并使他們流下并收集在吸收塔的底部。除霧器還包括一個清洗裝置,這意味著污水和沉淀物都可以從除霧器上清除,從而保持除霧器的潔凈和更高效率。通過脫硫方式對煙氣進行凈化是非常有效的手段,超過95%的污染物都會被清除。</p>
